Phosphoric Acid (Orthophosphoric Acid), is a mineral acid. It is a white solid that melts at 42.35° C to form a colorless, viscous liquid. Phosphoric Acid is very commonly used as an aqueous solution of 85%. As a concentrated acid, an 85% solution can be corrosive, although it is nontoxic when diluted.

Phosphoric Acid is primarily used in the manufacture of fertilizers, detergents and pharmaceuticals. Phosphorus is one of the elements, in fertilizers, essential for plant growth. Phosphoric acid is also used in processed food to acidify foods and beverages, such as Coke and Pepsi. It can also be formulated to be used as a "rust converter", by direct application to rusted iron. It is formulated as a gel commonly called Naval Jelly. It is also sold under other names such as "rust remover" or "rust killer". Phosphoric Acid can also be found as the ingredient in over-the-counter anti-nausea medications.

Phosphoric Acid can be processed by Thermal, Wet or Dry-Kiln methods. These processes require the rubber lining to see temperatures up to 220° F. Our Chlorobutyl's, LS582, VE621BC, VE524WC, VE822BBS and natural Hotline II, are designed to withstand the high temperatures and abuse in this service. Our LS582 has a long history in railcar service, evaporators, condensers and storage tanks for Phosphoric Acid, as well as VE621BC, Hotline II and VE822BBS.
